The boom LOOKS low because upwind, the mainsheet is used to supply the leech tension, bending the mast, (OKs only use the kicker downwind), so when the mainsheet is released, to tack, the mast staightens and loads of room appears, so you can pass under with ease. And at 15stones and six feet, you would find that you could rake the mast more upright, (to get more leech tension upwind), and get even MORE room under the boom when tacking!
