There used to be a few OKs at Burton S.C. and there has been open meetings and the Inland Nationals there.
Agree with what Dave has said. It’s a very good all rounder.
The OK, like any boat with an unstayed mast, can be demanding when it is a bit breezy but no more so than a Laser.The controls and rig on an OK are far superior making it a much nicer boat to sail.
I would have thought that your budget would be more than enough to obtain a good sound boat with a good rig, if you can find one.
