Robbo. The rule is intended to stop the use of ‘off centre’ bearing rings. Look at it like this…..with the mast in the fore and aft position if you have say for example 1cm between the back of the mast and the back of the ring and 3 cm between the front of the mast and the front of the ring then the mast will stand further upright when rotated 90 degrees. The rule is to discourage this. Hope this helps.
