Am I missing the point here :? There seems so much hype about the WORLDS but quite frankly how many UK OK sailors actually want to make or even have the time to take part and qualify for world championships and b)really have the inclination ? I certainly don’t and I should think there are several hundred other CLUB OK sailors in the UK in the same mind! In terms of UK turn out at worlds how many really take time to qualify? 5-10 at most? The committee needs to look at what is going on closer to home in terms of the OK class and its sheer survival and stop worrying about what is going on in NZ, Poland etc,etc and how nice it would be to have a Worlds in warmer climates or pretty locations. Get real this is the UK OK association we are talking about here.
I totally agree with Tony. Focus on club grass routes and grow organically from the botom up. That way the UK OK class will thrive.
Oh and by the way off the shelf boats would be great for the class look what it has done for the Merlin through Winder Boats but that was only through some radical risks taken by Guy Winder which paid off big time plus the committee looking after the members and finding out what they wanted! Without these changes the Merlin class would have died!
No doubt a load of old tosh from me but having been in the class for only a year there seems to be some big holes that need to be closed…..quickly!
