Reply To: Ardleigh Frostbite Series
Hi guys and gals – no doubt you’re waiting for this week’s thrilling instalment! Actually this Sunday (following the 25 boats at the Winter champs the day before) was brilliantly sunny and force 1 (just).
Nick borrowed Andy’s boat. Andy sailed Nick’s boat. The result was that neither went particularly fast in the conditions but I got a few useful tips on how to speed up my boat.
Race 1 saw John Ball round first with Nick in hot pursuit followed by Andy, Jake Cracknell, Gary Pilgrim (in Pete’s boat 2059) and Dave Cooper (premature starter). Nick closed the gap a few times but John sailed a canny race to win. Jake was storming round in Dave Banks’ boat to take third. Andy 4th, Gary 5th, Dave 6th.
Race 2 saw a solid force 1 with not many holes. Again Nick rounded the windward mark first but significantly threatened, first by John Ball and then by storming Jake who got through both Nick and John on one brilliant beat to take first place, John second, Nick third, Andy 4th all finishing within 10 metres of each other. (and all beaten by the Solo on handicap!
Thanks to everyone who attended the winter champs now firmly on the racing calendar. Mike’s new boat had it’s baptism, and Mike managed to turn it upside down whilst fiddling with the ropes in the mast area at the same time as sailing out to the start. The self bailers don’t work too well in a force 1.
