As for images, I know Magnus Smith very well from the Merlin fraternity, Magnus is the assistant online editor for Y&Y so I can always get images to him PDQ if needs be to put on the Y&Y website as he is the one that updates and maintaines their website!
As for the photos themselves, sometimes if the likes of Fotoboat get wind of an event they will send a photographer along to bang off 100+ images which get posted on their website http://www.fotoboat.com its just a case of supporting them now and then. Editors of magazines can sometimes get hold of high res images free, as I used to for the MR Magazine, again as long as they get a credit and a bit of free advertsing it all helps their cause.
