Reply To: Anyone in Scotland still sailing?
Well I have been quiet of late,
Unfortunatly I was in hospital having surgery on my neck recovery is going slow but in right direction, just not as fast as I would like.
Anyway nothing has happened on the boat front. None of my friends have a towbar so having to scower ebay to see if I can find one for my alfa 156 going cheap (seeing as I am not getting paid at them moment finding one cheap enough is not so easy).
I have made a good start on my email address list of scottish sailing clubs. Next step is to prepare the email. I will drop a copy of my proposed email on here so you guys can comment on it and maybe give me some pointers for improving it if you think it needs it.
Can’t wait to get a towbar and get the boat ready for the water. Will need a little doing to it, looks like deck was epoxy and taped round centreboard case originally so will re-do it like that, centreboard handle is badly cracked so will fill it with wood glue and clamp then seal it with epoxy or varnish and touch up any scrapes etc. (at least it’s a nice light and very stiff centreboard), rudder is made out of the same wood so again is very light but think I need to alter to 15deg and again repair any scrapes. Need to move and re-inforce mast step. On top of that need to get hold of some reasonable cleats and ropes to replace the old worn out ones (again looking on ebay for any job lots as the price adds up individually. Once all that is done I will at last be on the water.
Not sure how to fill holes on the deck, think I will just use gel coat repair stuff and then maybe see if I can find some model enammel paint same colour as boat and touch it up with that.
Then out to win my first race (lol) may take a little practise first.
Good luck to everyone from the UK sailing in the worlds and hope largs treats you well as the wind on the east coast of scotland has been lovely (windy and sunny) this last week so hope your getting the same and it continues. Hope everyone sailing in the worlds has a really nice time in Scotland. Hopefully so good you’ll all consider coming back again Wish i was there with my Orange beastie hopefully next time (as I don’t plan on being slow so as long as the boat is fast enough). Think I need to find the stiffest mast I can though as don’t think a black top will cut it for me (but will measure just in case it is actually a very stiff black top mast).
