I used to have 1634 which was a Millican boat – I think was sold as Millican/Shipsides. Harry Millican was a craftsman of some calibre who worked with Bill Shipsides (as I understand it). Shipsides had a chandlery in Preston. Harry made both the boats and wooden spars. If you photo the boat – we could probably tell if he built it as there were some original details which were his trademark. They also leamed up with Martyn Shepherd for sails (he was in Windermere).
The workmanship was superb with a lot of fine detail in the construction; although he built the bottom of the boat with quite a lot of curve in it – it was a bit too much for me, but the McIntyres had Millican boats which they made go really well. (Then Mike is an exceptional sailor anyway- and the other brothers were not slow).
