Thanks a lot Karl, that all makes sense!!

Only project now is to get the stainless foot ring to fit in the step as its about 8mm wider than the previous foot. The boat is GBR 2065 and is a Hein so if anyone knows of a simple cure before I attack it with a Dremel then do let me know!!
