I make my foils with a finer entry than most. I agree with Dave that it seems to give a bit more “feel”. I think the stalling business is a red herring – if you are sailing anywhere near the point that it will stall you have other problems. The biggest issue to me is to make foils that have the least resistance to movement through the water – smooth even profile, good finish etc.. I also profile the foil differently where it breaks the surface to the underwater sections. However, I don’t have access to a suitable tank test facility to prove my theories but I don’t think they slow the boat down. One of my foils was on the boat that came third at the GP nats and the pilot of that boat was quite happy with it.
