The idea of the curved tracks is to be able to put a bit of mainsheet tension on in certain conditions without the traveller tending to come to the centreline automatically.
This was made worse by lifting up the floor block mounting. Putting the mainsheet block on the end of the c/b case was not helpful in this respect.
This is not usually a big problem inland – usually occurs in some sea conditions. I have not seen any great gains to be had by altering a boat to get the traveller to the gunwhale edge either. Most people just have the traveller the width of the cockpit.
2116 has a pretty straight traveller and that has a fairly good Worlds record!
