The OK Worlds has been a limited entry since the very early days, the only exception was the 50th anniversary event, when we had 120 boats in Poland 2007.
At that event on the light wind day the race officer failed to get the fleet off the line – 120 undisciplined Oks on a line start is a bit tricky. The rest of the week it was blowing 30 knots, so it wasnt an issue.
We should be happy that there is such a lot of competition for the UK places – its a good thing. I think the association does a very good job of ensuring that the allocation is as fair as possible places are offered in order of qualification.
If you put in the effort, you have every chance of attending, if you were unable to do the qualifiers the class will accomodate you if the places become available on a first come first served basis. All sounds fair to me.
