Some excellent close racing at Ardleigh today in a light drizzle and force 2-3. In race 1 Dan shot out of the start and was never headed as the rest of us team raced each other. Andy got into second place and held it for a while until he was overhauled by Trevor and Paul. Lee was struggling a bit in the lighter wind but Toby was going like a train in his newly acquired John Ball boat. Tim and Mark were also having a good battle.
Race 1 results: 1st Dan Ager, 2nd Paul Constable, 3rd Andy Turner, 4th Trevor Child, 5th Toby Ramsay, 6th Lee Child, 7th Tim Hurst, 8th Mark Earley (1 capsize). (Paul Church in the race box).
In race 2 there was a bit more wind and Lee Child made the best start with Andy Turner hot on his heels, Dan having been OCS and Trevor bailing out of a premature start. Lee and Andy pulled out a reasonable gap on the rest of the fleet until on one of the runs Dan, Toby and Trevor got a big gust and closed right up. All four of these boats were then never more than three or four boat lengths apart for another lap and a half. Paul Constable managed to capsize whilst tacking at the windward mark by leaving his mainsheet jammed. Dan tried very hard to get past Andy but luckily the finishing line came into sight just in time.
Race 2 results: 1st Lee Child, 2nd Andy Turner, 3rd Dan Ager, 4th Trevor Child, 5th Toby Ramsay, 6th Paul Constable, 7th Tim Hurst, 8th Mark Earley.
It’s rumoured that there will be 3 races back to back next week to make up for races lost in the freeze. The series has been extended to March 18th, also to catch up on lost races.
