Reply To: Ardleigh Frostbite Series
Numbers down a bit today as Andy and Will were race officers and Lee and Trevor Child alternated in the safety boat. No sign of Toby Ramsay or Paul Church! Lovely sunny day but the wind was rather fickle, not so much in direction but it kept coming and going. Good to see Jon Fish and Simon Shaw back on the water. Also Georgia, a young 14 year old Topper sailor swapped into Tim Hurst’s boat for race 1 and sailed very creditably.
Race 1 started from the committee boat in a force 1. Paul Constable powered up the beat into a good lead by the windward mark and was never caught, although Dan Ager tried his hardest. Trevor Child and Jon Fish had a good battle with Trev coming out on top, having fewer kilos than Jon. Further back Simon Shaw in Pete’s boat (2059) and Tim Hurst in Andy’s (2123) were swapping places and Georgia managed to keep ahead of Mark Earley.
Race 1 results: 1st Paul Constable, 2nd Dan Ager, 3rd Trevor Child, 4th Jon Fish, 5th Simon Shaw, 6th Tim Hurst, 7th Georgia, 8th Mark Earley.
Race 2 was the best of the day with a more steady breeze, dying towards the end. Paul led at the windward mark but was passed by Dan on the second reach. Paul, Jon and Dan arrived at the wing mark at the end of lap 1 pretty well together with Jon getting the inside berth at the mark. Paul got into the lead on the second beat but he was passed again by Dan on the downwind leg.
Race 2 results: 1st Dan Ager, 2nd Paul Constable, 3rd Jon Fish, 4th Lee Child, 5th Tim Hurst, 6th Simon Shaw, 7th Mark Earley.
Race 3 had the wind dying almost as soon as the race started. Jon had to miss the race to carry out domestic duties. Paul Constable established a lead but was overhauled by Dan Ager with Trevor Child getting close to the leading pair and Simon Shaw also closing in on the leaders. Eventually there was a painful drift to the finish line.
Race 3 results: 1st Dan Ager, 2nd Paul Constable, 3rd Trevor Child, 4th Simon Shaw, 5th Tim Hurst, 6th Mark Earley.
Last weekend of the 2012 Frostbite next week. Looks like Dan has got it sewn up but close for second place between Andy, Paul, Lee and Trevor.
