Great idea Terry. How about the following based on the National 12’s rule, worded suitably technically to please ISAF.
Delete 9.1 and replace with…
“9.1 If the material of the hull and deck shell has an average specific gravity of more than one then the space forward of the cockpit shall be occupied by not less than 0.12m3 of closed cell expanded plastic foam material properly secured. All the space aft of the cockpit shall form a buoyancy compartment.”
99% of FRP boats and plywood boats will have an average specific gravity of less than one. GRP boats (no foam) will be greater than one. Polyester boats such as the Seamark Nunn boats will be around the 1.4-1.7 mark and would need additional foam blocks. Most common composite foams (Corecell/Airex etc) are around 0.6.
