Reply To: PY – moved again!
That opens up another important point. If the PY is based on averages and two of the top OK clubs in the country (anyway, with four in the top 10 at the Nationals) are recommending the PY goes the other way, how did it go the wrong way? To offset WSC giving OKs a PY of 1131, there must be other clubs giving them a PY of 1069 or faster.
Maybe the question to the RYA should be, where are these results coming from? It would be interesting to find out which sailors are sailing their OKs in handicap racing faster than the National Champion can at his club.
I just checked the list again and the Wayfarer is now 1112. So in a couple of years the OK has gone from being 2 minuntes slower than the waybarge to 1 minute faster, while the waybarge has changed its design to be 5% faster than the old ones.
Interestingly the Finn has also been knocked back to 1050 (used to be 1069 a few years back),so it’s now faster than the RS 200 and the Laser 2, a two man spinnaker boat with trapeze.
It certainly sounds like there are gremlins at work.
