From my Finn sailing experiences I’d recommend that its much easier to KEEP It SIMPLE – having too much to think about regarding masts and sails can just leave you frustrated.
Too many sailors in the Finn fleets (excluding obviously the pros/full timers) worry about the very fine rig details and tend to forget about the basic sailing.
An ‘all round’ rig makes like so much easier than constantly worrying – “is it windy enough for a flat sail ? do I need to set up for the gusts or lulls ?, is it dropping or building etc etc etc”
If you have a coach boat with you it obviously helps but that’s not real for most of us.
I have trued to stick with a sail/mast combo that can cope with most conditions.
The good thing about having lots of masts/sails combos of course is that you always have an excuse !
