Reply To: starting and stopping with a fixed rudder
my friend who regularly sails up in wales tells me you need to be able to sail a considerable distance after launching without a rudder at Pwllheli . I struggle to get in the boat off a jetty ! . my favourite trick is to cast off the bow -it turns away – all I can grab is the outer end of the boom – so it drags me down the jetty like someone being dragged around the park by a big dog. I need to practise this from ‘shore to ship. bit when no one is looking – But I think I might get a lifty up rudder for the nationals !!
