okgorgeousParticipantHi Liam
Welcome to the OK Dinghy Forum.
Your boat would have been built in around 1973, any other information may be on the boats measurement certificate if it had one. I would suggest you contact the RYA to see if they have your boat on record. You can contact them at the following adress or phone them at
RYA Technical Department, RYA House, Ensign Way, Hamble, Southampton, Hampshire,
SO31 4YA. Telephone Number 0845 345 0383.

davecooperParticipantHi Liam,
The class secretary, Andy Turner, (andy-turnerATdsl.pipex.com) has a Big Dusty Tome, with details of when boats were first measured, who owned them and (I think) who built them, so he can probably fill in a few of the blanks. If you can tell us who you bought it from and which club it sailed at (assuming you bought it and didn’t drag it out of the weeds somewhere ) it might jog someone’s memory. Where do you sail yourself, and have you had your boat long? Can we look forward to tussling at a few open meetings?
Dave CooperPS When you have a moment, please fill in the boat’s details on the boats database https://www.okdinghy.co.uk/php/boats/. You can always add more details as you get them.

lb1989ParticipantHi everyone,
Firstly thanks for the help, gonna get in touch with the RYA and see what I get… I’ve owned the boat for 3 years, but it has only been used for fun at Roa Island Boat Club (in the north west), as I have sailed a Merlin Rocket. gonn try get to as many opens as I can, and see how it goes…Liam

davecooperParticipantWell, I’m confused! ‘Roa Island’ seems to be the place that all the people at Glasson dock day-sail to (or used to in the 70’s) tucked inside the south end of Walney Island, except they called it Peel Island (not sure about the spelling). Is this one of those new-fangled things like Peking being called Beijing and Leningrad called St Petersburg or were the Glasson Dock lot just a load of ignoramuses?

Bob EastwoodParticipantLiam
You are just down the road so come and join the growing OK fleet at South Windermere SC
or atleast come for a sail!!And Dave, you are right, I did exactly that with my old Dad back in the seventies in a cruiser mind.
Bob29th November 2008 at 11:39pm #3226
Bob EastwoodParticipantDave , when I say “you’re right” I mean you are wrong, off course. Roa Island is just near Peel Island. Where there used to be a very good old pub. Bob

Mike EdwardsParticipantFrom what I hear Neil, that’s what they do the majority of the time!!
Liam,
Good to see you joining the forum. It’s great to know about OKs being bought and used. Glad to hear you will be coming to some events next year. Keep your eye on the fixtures list. It would be good to see you new guys at the National Championships at Dabchicks over the August Bank Holiday weekend. There will be a training day on the Thursday, so it’s a good opportunity to pick up some tips.
You will need to join the OK Assossiation. To join you need to contact our Secretary Andy Turner – [email protected]
Hope to see you soon
Best Regards
Mike
