After more advice please.
I have a 30 deg rudder and am contemplating converting it to 15 deg are there any advantages?
I am planning to work to Terry’s excellent PDF on rudder conversions. I assume I just epoxy a 15deg wedge on the front as shown in he sketch and angle the head to for the tiller to miss the rear tank?

The main advantage of the 15 degree is that it feels a lot better! I should think the tiller loads are maybe a third of what you feel with the 30 degree rudder so your boat instantly feels as though you fitted power steering :D. if you have to go back to a 30degrree rudder it feels as though the tyres are flat ! I dunno if the 15 degree’s any quicker – you’d think it might be, but maybe the lighter loads tempt you into bigger rudder movements. The only downside (I think) is that the rudder isn’t so efficient for sculling with any more. I’d definitely do it if I was you.

Thanks for the repsonse
I was going to drop Terry an email regarding his article on the conversion as what it would appear is that I only need to epoxy a 15 deg wood fillet on the front edge of the blade to get the 15 deg angle and then cut the head of the blade to accomodate a tiller, fit gudgeon, pintle, job done!
My only reservation would be going to a fixed rudder as i’m not used to these and worried that I will rip the guts out of the transom when coming ashore!!
