Hi all,
As a slight break from tradition a number of us will be doing the Alton Water Frostbite this winter. Whilst its been great fun sailing at Ardleigh there is a far greater opportunity to showcase the OK at Alton Water and hopefully encourage a few people into the class which can only be a good thing for all of us in the area.
The quality of winter racing at AW has increased dramatically over the last few years with a number of Phantoms, Finns, Laser and other singlehanders racing on the relatively large stretch of water. The AW Frostbite series attracts sailors from many of the local Suffolk and Essex clubs as it is the best inland sailing water in the area bar-none with a generous sailing area. The sailing centre has good changing room facilities, easy launching, a secure boat compound and a recently refurbed cafe. The ladies have even suggested meeting up with the kids for a stroll around the lake whilst the gents are out yachting so that should keep them happy!

18 races – 2 races a day back-to-back

11:00 AM first startFox’s Marine & Country are sponsoring the Frostbite Series. The 2014 Frostbite series is an 18 race series with 2 races being held back-to-back each Sunday between 5th January and 2nd March 2014 (weather permitting). Cost of the series for those who aren’t AWSC members is £60 (£30 for those that are). I’m also on the look-out for a boat or two for loaning to a couple of good sailors from Waldringfield who have expressed an interest in attending. I’d also like to arrange OK trial sails during the series as well. The more people we get to try OK’s this winter the better especially if they buy a boat and join Waldringfield or Dabchicks over the summer months.
So far Robert C-G, Dan, Luke, myself are definitely in and we expect Deaves and a couple of new faces to join in (if we can find them boats) and hopefully a few of the Mersea boys to travel a little bit further – it will be worth it!
