Anyone fancy doing the Blithfield Barrel?
Dates are – 9th Nov, 14th Dec 2014, 11th Jan, 15th Feb 2015
2 races, starts at 12-00 + 2-00pm.

NickBlithfield Barrel Week 1.
7 x OK’s met up for the first Barrel event on Sunday. After fog and very little breeze a postponement took place and an early lunch was called. A force 2 picked up and we set off to the start. After a Black flag recall 4 x boats were sent home, luckily no OK’s were on the Black board.
At the second attempt the fleet got away. Tony Woods rounded first having worked the right hand side of the beat. Simon Cowood rounded second with Ben Steele third and Jim Hunt some way behind in fourth. Charlie Chandler, Martin Bower and Keith Byers weren’t out of contention but were suffering with the greater traffic further down the fleet.
On the broad reach down to the Clubhouse the breeze filled in from behind meaning that ‘Jammy Jim’ overtook all but Woods. At the leward mark an RS200 performed a brilliant ‘Mark Trap’ on Woods who complimented him on his superb Match Racing tactics (Went right over his head it did!). Hunt chuckled his way through the gap into the lead. Cowood got stuffed by even more boats and was left wallowing without any breeze.
On the next beat Woods regained the lead and rounded ahead of Hunt. On the reach Hunt used his lighter new ‘slim jim’ figure to get over Woods and into the lead.
Further down the fleet 76.4kg of Charlie Chandler was making progress and worked his way into third.
At the finish Hunt had a good lead over Woods in second with Chandler some way back in third. After a close finish Cowood pipped Byers for 4th and 5th. Ben Steele who is working hard to progress the Winter was 6th. Bower didn’t have the best of days with his new personal sail number of 66. We reckon he mis-judged things as there were only 65 boats out!
Hope to see more OK’s at the next one in December.Scores on the doors will remain under wraps, all I will say is that Greenpeace have me down as a protected species, Martin would make a good Hog roast and Jim is already half the man he once was. Let battle commence, must get back to my porridge with low fat milk. Lovely!
Always nice to read a report by Free Willy however I am interested in his interpretation of events. It seems to me that whenever he arrives at a mark first it is skill whilst whenever anyone else has the temerity to overtake him it is luck. Any comments?

Jim is away on his second honeymoon (The old Rascal) so that should give us all a chance of glory. Forecast is a little brave at present but anything could happen between now and then. THREAD STOLEN.
Between the hours of 9am Wednesday and 10.00pm Thursday the Blithfield Barrel Thread was stolen by a bunch of Southerners. They were last seen heading for a concrete bowl below Runway 3 at Heathrow Airport. Good luck guys. Enjoy!
P.S. There was a fat guy at the back shouting don’t leave me behind!
