Firstly, congratulations to Nick Craig for defending his title. Brilliant bit of sailing. Well done.

On a boring note! Can anyone tell me if carbon is allowed to re-inforce a repair on, say the deck? Is this material banned in the class for use on hull/deck construction?

      Thanks

      Hi Richard,
The class rules (http://www.sailing.org/classes/classrules/2004/OKDRules04.PDF) say that the hull, deck and centerboard case have to be made of wood, grp or sandwich, but I think as long as you aren’t cutting away part of your boat and substituting carbon or covering the whole deck with it, you’re probably ok. Greg Wilcox was sailing all over Europe the other year in a boat where the deck seemed to be mostly gaffer tape, and I don’t think anyone objected to that! Tim O’Leary is the measurement and technical guy for the uk, so he can give you a definite answer – I bet this isn’t the first time this has come up.
