Control Line Sizes

I have recently re-ropped my boat with 4mm Excel Pro which seems quite a thinnish rope compared to 4mm Excel Racing. (see images in technical article overdeck controls).

A sado question, but is 4mm Excel Pro OK (dont seem like 4mm is similsr to the 4mm marlow 8 plait pre-stretch) or is there a preference to use a larger dia i.e. 5mm dia Excel Pro or 4mm excel racing for control lines.

It is down to preference on the size of rope you use, the important factor is that it doesn’t stretch, softies like Mike Edwards like to use 5mm rope as it is gentler on his delicate hands, where as tough guys like myself with hard working hands tend to use 4mm. You can also use 8 platt if you want to as long as it is pre stretched.

If you go to the back corner of your clubs dinghy park, you will find a couple of fireflys & 70,s merlin rocket & a contender with a hole in it.All ready for Nov 5th.
There should be enough rope & tufnol fittings, to fit out a new Alex Scoles Rushworth to the highest standard. I believe thats what someone in Suffolk once did!!

I would imagine having saved all that money, he would be the kind of guy to celebrate launching his new boat by buying all his mates a pint.
