3 boats made it out today for the first club race – Tim Hurst in the freshly refurbished General Lee, Toby Ramsay in 2100 and Trev Child in his old 1689 as 2064 is currently undergoing a refit. Race 1 started in a Northerly 5 knots and all three boats were close at the windward mark, Toby got there first but the strong tide pushed him into it and Trev slipped past whilst he did spins. At the leeward mark Toby got an overlap and got the lead back but Trev got past on the beat….just. It was neck and neck down the run to the finish but unfortunately the oks had completed the wrong course! Oh well, it was great racing!! Toby and Trev a dead tie and Tim third.

The breeze picked up between races but sadly dropped before the race two start. Toby got off the line well and headed right but this wasn’t the way to go so arrived at the mark behind the General Lee and the 1689. Toby caught up downwind and squeezed past Tim at the leeward mark and positions stayed unchanged for the second lap. 1st Trev, 2nd Toby and 3rd Tim.

Two more boats promised for next time.

Freezing cold, raining and blowing dogs off leads yesterday so sadly only two OKs out – Tim in his newly aquired 2032 and Trev in Toby’s 2100 as he was OOD. At the top of the beat Tim had a small lead but this wasn’t to last as he couldn’t keep the boat under the mast. Trev got away and was looking good for the race win until he had a spectacular death roll 50m from the finish at the bottom of the run. This let the laser past but Tim couldn’t quite do the same.

At race two’s windward mark Tim sailed past the layline which handed Trev the lead which he extended on the two reaches. Tim caught up on the upwind but despite Trev doing turns for hitting his boom on the windward mark couldn’t get past, he pushed hard until a stylish wipeout killed his chances!

Next race race in two weeks when it’ll be 25 degrees!
