dinghy show, grand tour and travellers

For those of you that don’t know, you are now lucky enough to have me as your vice chairman and as such I thought i’d write a few words for you to read/ignore.
Firstly i’d like to thank all those that helped out on the stand at the dinghy show, especially Neil and Mike who did all the set up work on the Friday evening. Thanks also to Alex, with burt’s new toy, and Simon Childs for getting two great looking boats there. It was encouraging to see lots of members visit the stand, both new and old, and although numbers were down at the show this year, we still had quite a lot of interest from prospective members.
A couple of things we do need for next year are some new hi-res pictures and some updated video to freshen up the stand. Maybe we can get some decent stuff from training day’s that are planned throughout the year, either class organised or any ad-hoc sessions that you may be planning. We do have a go-pro available if anyone’s interested.
This years TT has been placed in my incompetent hands but will run as previously on the high points scoring system. All events to count including the GT events although these will have their separate series scoring. I’ll update the series results on a monthly basis so we all know where we are and who we’re beating, or not, as the case may be. I believe Deryck is keen to have some mid season prizes too, best/worst capsize etc, etc (Tim?!), so get yourself along to as many as possible and see if you can get amongst the prizes.
The Grand Tour will this year comprise of the six, two day events of which you will need to count your best five results so only one discard. This series was pretty cut throat all year with really good competition throughout both fleets so lets all try and keep this going. Simon Cox of Synergy Marine has kindly donated two fantastic trophies for the series so get yourselves out there and wrest them away from their existing holders grasp, (especially Burt!). Again, I intend to be at all the Tour events so i’ll get the results up asap with Simon’s help.
A little reminder to all out there. There were a few meetings last year that didn’t get a report in yachts and yachting which is a lost source of free advertising. It is the responsibility of whoever comes third to write the report, which should be e-mailed to Colin Meddows-smith for posting on the website AND to clubs@yachtsandyachting. I’m sure you’re all rather bored of my irreverent style of writing by now so i’ll be trying my hardest to avoid third place!
One more thing, Lee has put a lot of time and effort into getting together an excellent fixture list this year so lets all support him and OUR class by getting the best turnouts we can, starting with the Winter’s at Alton this weekend and Bristol (edit: Burghfield!!) the weekend after, see you all there.

Please ask the race teams at events to take some photos (of the boat park pre-race, from the rescue/committee boats or after sailing in the bar….visions of Dave and Burt spring to mind !, presentations etc) . Email them over and I will add suitable ones ! to the website. I’ll bring a digital camera to events that I attend and if other members can do the same at their home club events we should be able to get some good shots.
