robertParticipantDear all,
I have to tell you that today, November 17th, at about 16.00, Daniel Ager towed his own OK out of Waldringfield Sailing Club car park using his own car and his own trailer and his own towbar. He even packed the boat onto the trailer all by himself.
This is the end of an era. After nearly 20 years of thumbing lifts off mugs like Alistair, Simon, Jon and myself, Dan has broken with tradition and moved his own boat with his own car for the first time in his life. Admittedly it was only the four miles to his house, but I am sure you’ll agree we all have to start somewhere.
I am also sure that you’ll allow me to be the first to offer our heartiest congratuations to Dan. It really was a momentous occasion.
In the years to come I will be one of the very few who can say “I was there. I saw it happen.”

andyt15064ParticipantWhy didn’t he go a few more miles to come and join the 10 OKs that are racing at Ardleigh on Sundays? We all had a great sail today with JB winning one and Fish winning the other and Pete and me trying to keep up.
Actually when they worked out the handicaps we were beaten by a Solo!

davecooperParticipantwe were beaten by a Solo!
Can’t you just explain to Steve Ede that if he gets an ok
- He’ll have more fun
get better competition
associate with nicer people
won’t get the p!ss taken out of him any more? He’s just got to see the light!

NickCraigParticipantDan – many congratulations, well done on achieving this. Soon you will be able to give Robert a lift and charge him petrol money which is one of lifes truly satisfying moments.
Yes Steve Eade should def be in an OK. And I shouldn’t worry about Solos beating OKs on handicap. Solos are faster than OKs. Our handicap is tougher because handicaps are based on returns and OK sailors are good.
Cheers

Jon FishParticipantAndy – I think after 4 races in Suffolk, the little lamb is a wee bit tired, so couldnt manage the mileage to Ardleigh too…
but, he still deserves a big Congratulations….
its a very nice car toops I’m gutted about the result on Sunday – how far in front of the Solo do we need to be to beat them???
19th November 2007 at 2:44pm #2512
tony thresherParticipantIf a Solo finished on the hour you would have to have finished something over 2mins 15 secs before.
I always find it tuff to beat the Solos at WOSC. but generally do. Mind you we dont have anyone of the calibre of Steve Ede sailing one.

andyt15064ParticipantBy the way Steve Ede if the race officer for the Winter Champs at Ardleigh on Sat Feb 9th. Perhaps you guys can pursuade him then!
20th November 2007 at 4:19pm #2514
Steve EdeParticipantWell I’m flattered to see that I get written about in the OK forum – an honour I’m sure. Also handy to know of a couple of boats that are going to be OCS a few times at your winters – saves me the hassle of looking down the line
20th November 2007 at 7:15pm #2515
robertParticipantGood to hear that Nick is disqualified before he even turns up…
20th November 2007 at 8:36pm #2516
XParticipantin that case Nick might as well be race officer. Then Steve can sail his boat!!
21st November 2007 at 12:06am #2517
Mike EdwardsParticipantWhen I saw the title ‘History was made today’ and that Robert was the author, I was expecting to hear that he had bought his first ever round of drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alas, we still wait in hope!
Anyway Dan, well done! Those who have said that you are a big girl can now eat their words – shame on you! You know who you all are! Every single one of you should apologize!:x
So, there is clearly more than one decent Solo sailor! I had no idea! Aren’t you tempted Steve? I am sure Andy could sort you out with a decent boat for the Winters. Maybe you could use his, as it will probably be far too cold for someone of his age! He could then rap up warm and be race officer.
Have you all done your christmas shopping yet?
Cheers
Mike21st November 2007 at 8:58am #2518
NickCraigParticipantAh Robert, you’ve resorted to ar*e licking the race officer to get me booted out!
Steve – you are very welcome to have a go in my boat between races @ the winters as long as you see sense & buy one and let me start half way up the beat!
Cheers
Nick21st November 2007 at 11:27am #2519
tonythresherParticipantYou must be worried Nick if you want that much of a head start. I was assuming Steve would only give me a couple of boat lengths on the line with my Solo connections (definitely not enough). Mind you I’ve actually got to get to Ardleigh which might prove difficult as I couldn’t even get from WOSC to Farmoor last year!
Perhaps you ought to do a Solo Champs one day just to show us how good you really are!! You and Steve could swop boats for a couple of months?

21st November 2007 at 1:09pm #2520
NickCraigParticipantAh Tony, very decent of you to offer me Steves boat! If Steve will lend me his Solo for a Garda event, I’ll be well up for it. Seems a fair swap for a sail in my boat between races at Ardleigh
Otherwise, I’ll have to drop below 14 stone which doesn’t sounds like fun21st November 2007 at 1:37pm #2521
Steve EdeParticipant14+ stone is no problem in a Solo Nick – just ask Mr Hunt, or Tony for that matter
My boat will already be in use when the Garda event is on, but I’m sure I’d be able to get you the loan of a boat for one of other events next year. Perhaps you’d be able to show how good you OK sailors really are
