Largs Open Meeting

Thanks to everyone who made the effort to travel all the way to Largs, A great weekend was had by all, with some really nice sailing, managed excellently by the club. Really looking forward to next years Worlds.

You missed a good one. I think those that have seen the facilities that Largs has to offer were suitably impressed. Excellant race management, everything on tap at the marina. Sail maker, Restaurants, Coffee shop, Chandlers, hose pipe, trolley dollys, cask beer, Lasagne, RS200 crews, you name it. Could have done with more wind but the country did suffer from the biggest high of the year. We all know where the sea breeze comes in from now and wont be telling anyone that wasn’t there! Andy T is going like a train, and looks in fine form. Nice to see some new guys in the fleet that made thier mark on the course and in the bar. Roll on Brightlingsea.

Sorry to miss Sundays races, but Suffolk was feeling a long way away.

As Martin said, thanks for making the new boys so welcome, I certainly learned quite a lot about OK boating, chief amongst which was stay away from the showers if Mike was there.

It was pretty good wasn’t it.

Andy, Dave, Neil and I had two excellent meetings on the Monday morning to discuss and plan the finer detail for next years National and World Championships at Largs.

Don’t forget that anyone can come up to Largs for the Nationals next July and experience the place and if you don’t manage to get a Worlds place, why not stay on and make a holiday of it and help out. I don’t think that you could go to any professionally run venue such as this and experience such hospitality. They are so keen to make the Nationals and Worlds next year a great success.

As Tony has already mentioned, I must acknowledge how well and fast Mr T was sailing. Only managed to catch you once Mr T!! Mary was going really well with her new cut down sail. Daz is clearly getting to grips with the wonders of OK sailing and scored an excellent 3rd in one race. After a few tips from the crowd, young Ben started to get some decent results and Andy I am sure would have won a race had the wind not died. I am not quite sure what happened to Deryck though!

Martin and Robert, you have clearly made the right decision in choosing the OK and it was great to meet you both and sail against you. Hope to see you both again soon.

Sounds like you had a better time than we did at the optimist nationals last summer – rained practically every day and the camper van village in the marina car park got flooded on the last day!

Is the friendly dolphin still there, by the green buoy to the south? My boys sailed out to see it and it played around amongst the oppies for about half an hour.

Finally have just got home
I put the poor performance down to the high altitude we had to travel……..Scotland apparently you can still go skiing in Scotland?
By Sunday morning altitude sickness was upon me
I know it has already been said how quick Mr T was going but i would like to add that back in April on the weekend of Dabchicks. On the Sunday some of us went for a sail at Ardleigh. In race 2 Mr Deryck lead from start to finnish beating Mr T on his own patch and with a convincing margin
Just like to add you can not afford to have one bad day in our highly competitive fleet……..
