Just back from Holland. Sun shone in the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday but in the morning there were more than a few of us shivering in the cold before the first start.
This is not going to be a run down of the long weekend with the issues of rescue cover on the Friday, a Beegees tribute band in the Brake Boer on Friday night or the classs dinner on the Saturday – let alone the racing results – being worthy of a better scribe (or indeed an attendee) than I. Instead as a recent joiner of the class who is only ever going to trouble those at the back of the fleet I would say that that the essence of the class and its membership lies in the fact that the 2 or 3 at the front of the fleet were still in the water at the slip way at the end of the day catching and helping the tail Enders up the slip way. Really kind and considerate and much appreciated by this old goat!!
By the way the Saturday night was a hoot!!

Certainly a good social weekend for me and Maureen. I would like to thank Andy for giving up his days racing to assist myself in providing rescue cover for the days racing on Friday. It was not what we wanted to do but it seemed like I was the right thing to do and I think the fleet appreciated our sacrifice ? I have spoken with the Dutch class and they have assured me that the situation will not repeat itself. Basically for those not in the know No rescue boats were to be manned for racing. The Solo class approached the Ok class asking for support and we managed arrange for 2 boats to be launched 1 manned by the solo class and 1 by the OK,s. Roll on France and hopefully plenty of sunshine and force 3 winds but not forgetting the wine and food.??9th May 2017 at 9:33am #174369th May 2017 at 11:04am #17437
GOAT….Greatest of all time and Ken …. KFC
Well done lads for leading the way and providing the rescue cover
Ken you must keep an eye on the GOAT he managed to sneak in a few results ….9th May 2017 at 12:26pm #17440
I know, the crafty old goat. We were given our entry fee back. So not officially entered. I did sail 2 races on SAT but started on the opposite side of the committee boat and never sailed the last beat. The goat got stuck in bless him and got results. So not just a crafty old goat but a manipulator of results.? ⛵ so maybe he is the Greatest of all time. GOAT?9th May 2017 at 1:52pm #17441
In my defence, I didn’t impede anyone at the start line (proven by crap positions at the windward nark) and certainly didn’t get in anyone’s way round the course. Besides I had assumed that the race team would just give me DNC’s for those races. The pleasure for this bloke was that there were a few boats behind him at the finish line on both days. BTW would rather have sailed Saturday and not got my fee back!!9th May 2017 at 5:52pm #17442
Stop kidding about.
Goats… kids… never mind. Well done Andy: I saw a photo of you somewhere on Facebook battling away. And you beat my nemesis from St Pierre Quiberon – Bel207. Good effort!9th May 2017 at 6:31pm #17443
Do my eyes deceive me or is that a post from our long lost area rep? Hope you are well Paul, are you packing your hockey stick away and coming out to play soon……
Just need Robbo to pop out the woodwork…9th May 2017 at 7:03pm #17444RodneytiddParticipant
I would like to add my thanks to Andy and Ken for their rescue boat duties. The saturday was the type of weather when a quick help out of the water could have saved someone from hypothermia or worse.
Here are the winners in an unguarded moment.9th May 2017 at 7:35pm #17445
Very well thanks: was chatting to the chair of vice a little while ago…. another hockey season completed with my dignity just about intact, but I’ve been waylaid by the twin necessities of finishing my OU degree (deep into the very last essay at the moment) and revarnishing the deck, having had the hull tarted up over the winter.
Hoping to be back on the water soon, but unfortunately this year’s fixtures seem to clash with all manner of family events, e.g. son’s graduation ceremony in Southampton the weekend I want to be in Rutland, and so on. Still keen, but I’m afraid I might be a bit distant this summer.
Never mind, remember I have a 10 year plan*: 2018 may be the ‘Year of the Dog’ for the Chinese, but for me it’s going to be the ‘Year of a Better Mast’ (negotiations with the ever-fragrant Mrs D are under way) and far more events!
Hope the family’s well.
* The first two years were devoted to being less crap…10th May 2017 at 4:34pm #17469
Looking at our aging fleet you might be onto a winner with your 10 year plan,
Paul for your sake I hope the ‘ever-fragrant Mrs D’ has a nice fragrance….
All good with the family, thanks
Will we see you at Sunderland ?10th May 2017 at 7:15pm #17471
Hoping so: if only to take part in the ‘one year on’ Crimewatch reconstruction/appeal for new leads on the whereabouts of the chair of vice’s wallet.10th May 2017 at 8:03pm #17472
The goat is planning on trekking north so would be great to catch up if you could hop across from Shropshire. Never know we might even get Junior from Northants turning up in the hope (but not expectation) of catching up on lost sleep

Fat chance of any sleep at Sunderland SC when you have Burt, Dave and Ben peeing on everything in sight during the night!10th May 2017 at 8:31pm #17477KazrobParticipant
Kudos to Ken and Andy for giving up their sailing to make the event run. I’d have to admit that if I’d gone all the way to Holland with my boat I’d have been so generous (unless it was howling and cold of course ). That is a special level of dedication to the class that needs all our gratitude, even if we weren’t there.
The pics and videos from Medemblik looked pretty good but I’d have to say the pics from the Mediterranean looked at tad warmer! Pity its so far away
