Medemblik Holland, Lac-Du-Der France, UK Nationals.

Well not long now to the start of the Tri Series event. Which, as you should have gathered by now, takes in 3 events; Medemblik, Lac-Du-Der, and the UK Nationals.
Medemblik has already got a good list of GBR boats registered, the French event has 5 Brit boats, who knows how many will complete the series at the Herne Bay Nationals. Unfortunately for me it is looking unlikely that I will be at the UK event. But the winner of the trophy will be the person with the least number of points for all 3 events.
So this post is a little reminder if you are thinking off attending these events please do. I am sure you will enjoy the challenge of sailing the OK on International waters and meeting up with our foreign counterparts. The French event has a good hostel and in house cooking for breakfast and dinners. Vans can be parked for free and there is plenty to do in and around the local area. If you like cycling it is a great opportunity to ride around the largest reservoir in Europe.
So good luck to those who do attend. I will be in Medemblik and France and look forward to catching up with you all. All the events are listed on this Website.

Well next week 4 Brits are off to the Lac-Du-Der, it was to be 5 but our Vice Chairman has pulled out. We will miss you.
Weather forecast is looking good.
I have to report that my Triangle Series has taken a big hit, all was looking good until the French who have been actively supporting the series planned in an event at Bandol in the south of France the same weekend as Medemblik. Maybe the sun and blue water had some attractions.
So we had NO French In Medemblik. There are however quite a few Dutch, Belgian sailors who were at Medemblik so I hope to canvass them and encourage them to attend the UK Nationals.I do know that 1 of these sailors had planned in our Original date at Herne Bay and cannot like myself now attend.
I will be back with a report and results of the event later next week.

See you and Maureen there. Rodney is on record as buying bubbles when he arrives on the Friday.
Here’s hoping for sun, a force 3/4 every day, great wine and a couple of “seize cent soixant quatre after racing.

1664, looking forward to it. Not sure about force 4, force 3 and sun would do me just fine. ? We will be there Thursday the 1st arriving about 16.00 hrs.

GBR Nationals having to move may not be great for some (you’ll be there in spirt Woodise) but works out great for me …. I should be unbroken by then, so bring it on2nd June 2017 at 5:23pm #17664
Very hot here today, managed a swim in the Lake. Few beers and dinner with Mr Martin last night. Rodney, and Rover now arrived, team dinner and wine tonight. ? 5 race planned for tomorrow first start 11 00 hrs. The free beer is plumbed in and flowing in the club house. ? Looking like there could be 25 plus boats. Will keep you posted on progress.

sounds nice ken.2nd June 2017 at 10:12pm #17666
Yes Burt it is, a few bottles of wine and many beers later, we are now walking back to the digs for an early night and all trying very hard to interpret the French sailing instructions. Very funny under the influence. ? we have established our start is preceded by a yellow flag. There are 8 courses to choose from each of which each has a pennant allocated. However we need now to try understand which pennant is which. ? all good fun under the influence of booze. Back tomorrow with some results.

Good luck to all the team out there, don’t let the goat drag you down with all that vin rouge!!3rd June 2017 at 9:31pm #17668AndyMParticipant
The goat I will have you know did a thorough recce of the race course by cycling round the lake – pity it didn’t help when he got on the water. And as for leading the likes of Ken Carroll, Rodney Tidd and Andy Rushworth astray, ce n’est pas possible!!

Well here goes with a little report. Sailing Saturday very light wind and shifty. We sailed 5 races 1 abandoned. So 4 results. First race of the day saw a very enthusiastic jury member waving his flag about much to my disliking. Second race was a little confusing at the start there was clearly boats over the line and a 3 sound signal was made. Rodney and myself returned back thinking it was to be general recall but unfortunately for us it was not. We soon found out it was no good asking why there was 3 sound signals because nobody understood a word of what we were saying. Mixed results for the Brits mostly single figures. Great evening meal again and much vino. Sunday morning plenty of wind all looking good. It soon dropped off making race 1 very hard work. Race 2 Andy Rushworth says how do you write a report about race 2 lets just say it is one to forget. Beating and running with the boat next to you was very interesting Rover being reasonably well placed with Andy hot on his heels. I decided 1.5 hrs earlier to return to shore and gave it a miss. ? The fleet then came ashore for lunch and as I type this they have gone back out at 14.45 hrs. Ken and Andy decided enough was enough. However the guys are most likely having a good sail as the breeze has now kicked in. Andy and myself will just have to make do with the free beers ?.5th June 2017 at 12:32pm #17674
Racing abandoned for the day, no wind. However it is very sunny and like the guys we are we are helping the French empty the last barrel of beer. ? We have had a great time and been in very good company. In reality it has almost been an OK holiday. Good news to report it seems that we may have 3 Dutch sailors at Herne bay and maybe 1 Belgian. All 4 have results In the Tri Series. My very nice ship will not be coming home, it has a very attractive new lady owner. It will be sailed in Germany. ?5th June 2017 at 12:43pm #17675Paul DParticipant
Light winds. Dodgy starts. Complex courses. If it wasn’t for the sunshine and free beer it sounds like my home club on a bad day… Must put it in the diary for next year!6th June 2017 at 5:15pm #17681
Well we thought we would share our venue with you. Check out the wind in the background.
Ken. Great time had by all.
