Once upon a time 35 years ago well before I started sailing the OK I rode motorcycle trials in the Lakes and Scottish borders.
Once I made my mind up to stop sailing the OK I decided it was time to maybe start riding again. I do not regret it. I compete every weekend and never have to travel more than 1 hour to ride. I ride a 1979 Italian Fantic. Dave Rose has also started riding but is at the very start of a massive learning curve.
Like most things Dave does he is doing very well. So I just thought I would share a few pics of my revived sport.

Ken CarrollOh Yes- nice stuff Ken- I did quite a bit of this (and my first bike was a Fantic twin shock) used to spend a lot of time upside down in trees !! then I got an SWR and then an air cooled monoshock (can’t remember the name) but in the end I was jarring my wrists so much I couldn’t play the guitar for days after it so I gave it up -BUT I spend loads of time on Ebay window shopping for a gas gas or a Beta Alp. I’m jelous now- It’s really cool how you’ve got the camera man to take the pic’s so you actually look like you know what you’re doing – Real Sammy Miller pose.!!
And to think I thoiught sailing had jargon!
i look forward to a pint with Robbo to try and understand what the hell he is talking about.
Mind you Ken does owe the photographer!

If you think those pics are posed for, have a look at my face in this one. Bloody Scary needed to stop that front wheel coming any higher there was a big climb directly after that bit and I was NOT in control at all. Robbo, pleased you understand what is taking place, as I said earlier in the thread I rode extensively in my younger days.
Here is a group of pictures scanned in, taken in 1982 the bike was a 320 Armstrong. You will have to have a play sometime maybe I will bring the Fantic to some open meeting one day.

i have to admit that your expression on your ‘bloody scary’ moment is not too dissimilar to the one that I normally have on my face as I approach the gybe mark in a force 5. A successful rounding always brings a big grin but then that isn’t always that often. Still an attempt to get a tad fitter this year migtht mean that recovering from a splash might not be quite so knackering.

i look forward to that- have to say the nicest trials ride I ever had was on a tiger cub that was beautifully set up so it would run very slow and smoothe which a chap called Charles millington lent me. I always found the fantic revved out of control compared to the very controllable phut phut of the medern water cooled two strokes I would have loved had I the money at the time
which is why I’d like a gas gas !! I did have a great time on a 1959 AJS i built up like a works trials lookalike with road gearing which i converted to a matchless Magneto instead of the crap alternator system they had. stuff like the Beamish -Cotswold march hare and Clouds -Exeter trial ( that;s great starts at midnight -Hah ha.) bladdering up those climbs with a long stroking single. it would climb anything .once won the light car class in the Beamish in a Messerschmitt KR200- oh you’ve got me started again and I thought I was cured !!!

i struggled when we last met and you regaled me about the tin tray (sorry car) that you race round circuits. I am sorry but magnetos, 2 strokes (I actually have an old rough cut 2 stroke mower that coughs up clouds of blue smoke) are all a bit beyond me and then you talk about throttles tensions. All I can say I say that the first 2 pints are on you when we next meet if I have to undergo an explanation. If not I will buy the first.
Now Burt are we going to see you at Medemblik? Sounds like Dave isn’t going to make it. We need someone to be totally irresponsible on the IJsselmeer (god I hope I spelt that correctly). Will help out in the early evening but you know us old farts have to hit the sack by 10.30.
