Hello Everyone,
The National Championship is advertised to take place at Herne Bay Sailing Club from Thursday 17th August to Sunday 20th August 2017. It is with great regret that the committee has had to cancel the venue, Herne Bay Sailing Club.
- We are hoping to keep the same dates for the National Championship.
- We are actively looking for an alternative venue.
- We know a number of you have already booked your accommodation and we apologise for the obvious inconvenience caused.
Saturday 19th August is the date of the South Eastern Air Show. In the aftermath of the Shoreham air show tragedy Herne Bay Sailing Club was led to believe that the air show would be small scale and would have no impact on our sailing event. They have just heard this week that this is not the case and Herne Bay is to prepare for 200,000 visitors.
Herne Bay Sailing Club has been advised that there can be no dinghy racing on Saturday, day 3 of our event, there would be no access to the promenade nor could the competitors camp / campervan on the Club’s land nor park cars in the vicinity of the Club. On receipt of this news, the committee discussed at length a variety of options but each compromised the integrity of our four day National Championship. Planning was at an advanced stage so you can imagine that both the Club and the committee are very disappointed to broadcast this outcome.
Please be assured that a four day National Championship will take place in 2017 and we will give full details just as soon as all has been confirmed.
It is still our intention to complete the Tri Series and hopefully the final leg will be held on the same dates and at a venue within easy reach of channel crossings.
We are still hoping to run the 60th anniversary celebrations on Saturday 19th August; planning is at an advanced stage and we are anticipating that we will be able to relocate the event to the new venue.

thanks for the update. Sad for the committee and the club. I will cancel my B&B. I know it is probably a tad early to ask but do you think that the Nationals will be over the same weekend in August?

The aim is to try keep the same dates and hold the event in the eastern area. Members will be kept updated.
Great shame about Herne Bay heard it was a great club.
Any venue, if we are going to stay to the same dates needs on site accommodation (August – holiday period – booked up already)
Why does it have to still be east coast? No Europeans will turn up.
Surely a better option for this season would be delay to end of lets say September (out of season so accommodation not a problem) this opens up loads of venues and would enable an end of season holiday. Ask about Weymouth Town, isn’t X based there?
The committee must remember a nationals is also a holiday for most.
As much as I want to say change the date since I cant make it I’d be aware that people may have already booked holiday from work and might not be able to change it, would it be worth looking at a venue around Shoreham way on the south coast? its not a million miles away and easy for travellers. Just another option to throw into the mix. Also we have a lot of events that are in East Anglia already, its a long long drive over there…

I am about to ask for my deposit back on my booking in Herne Bay – a night’s accommodation in a B&B so not that material to this discussion. what I need more than anything else is some clarity in the next couple of weeks re:
1) are we still good for the dates in August – late September would be OK from a personal perspective if nothing can be found; and
2) where are we going ( I don’t need to drive too far); and
3) do they have available accommodation at a sensible price for the odd old F**t looking for a B&B.
Having booked for Medemblik and Lac du Der, and despite being well aware that Kens trophy is well out of reach for this old soul, I would like to be able to at least say I made all three regattas but don’t want the last one to break the bank.

BREAKING NEWS
I am delighted to inform you I have some very important news for you.
The last two weeks have been extremely difficult, but I can assure you, your committee have been working jolly hard to solve the situation we have found ourselves in.
Our intention was always to keep the original dates in August, so we have been searching for a new venue, but unfortunately due to the short time scale this has not been possible. So we have decided to keep the Nationals at Herne Bay but to move the date back.
So the UK national championships will now take place at Herne Bay sailing club from Thursday 21st September through to Sunday 24th September.

Not on your own Andy. Nor can We. My Son David was so looking forward to it.
Never mind like you 2 out of 3 ain’t bad we will just have to make the most of Medemblik and France.
It now seems we will be attending the Osprey Nationals instead so we just need to find a ship now.
