Not long to go now. Time to start checking out the long range forecast.
Rumour has it that Trev Child is not making the 5 mile trip over to Brightlingsea in favour of taking part in the West Mersea town regatta greasy pole event. Baffling……He makes the 200 mile round trip from Farnborough to Ardleigh every sunday during the winter for 2 crappy little winter series races and yet when the Class national chanpionships are on his doorstep, has the time booked off work, cant be bothered to sail 5 miles round to Brightlingsea.
Dissapointed.
hahaha, Tim you are a good promoter of the Nationals! Insult people enough and they might turn up – Who else is getting abuse?
Well, you wouldn’t think that the major UK event of the year is coming up this week. Where’s the excitement?
I certainly can’t wait and having just seen the Windguru forecast its looking very positive indeed. Even a decent direction for Brightlingsea. Bring it on!!

Simon’s prod obviously worked. There’s 31 signed up now. Not too shabby with hopefully more to follow. Can’t quite understand why Robert C.G isn’t signed up. He lives local, and obviously wouldn’t let the class and his close pals down by just not turning up. Or ……………….
So,We were having a bit of pre nationals tuning, Mersea Weeek racing was cancelled due to excessive winds. I had been badgering Paul Goodison to come out for a play with us in our OK’s for some time, so we finally got him down here with his kit and was keen for some tuning. Lee Child and Toby made 4 of us doing some upwind work, My sail had started to come out of the track at the bottom but I figured a tad more cunningham would hold it in place< I was a couple of boat lengths ahead of Goody when the main ripped out of the track and snapped the top 2 foot off the mast. Bit of a struggle to get in with a snapped mast but somehow managed to drift onto the beach with a bit of a jury rig.
Pre nationals training was curtailed, luckily no one was hurt and looking forward to the weekend.
If anyone has a spare (stiff)tin mast please bring it along to B’sea, The one from my orange boat is very flexy and not ideal for my 100kg frame.

Trevor has taken a fair amount of stick this week, so much so, I”m sure if he is talking to me. I found an old Boyce mast in Drums garden that looks OK, hoisted my sail up and it looks alright in no wind. Will see. Just taking the boat over there now. See you tomorrow.By the way, I liked how you subtly dropped in that you were a couple of boat lengths ahead when it snapped.
What can I say…..
Well I could say he couldnt live with my superior hiking and boat handling skills, or I could inject a modicum of truth and say that he was sailing behind me, instructing me how much main sheet tension I should use, where my traveller needs to be and to get further forward and hike harder.
Child was close to pissing himself with laughter (thanks)
