Nationals NOR/SI queries
28th August 2013 at 9:09am #1062
It appears that 4.1 & 8.1 of the NOR for the Nationals at Brixham are contradictory with regard to the measurement of mast movement.
Should 8.1 not reflect the current class rule 12.7 that came into effect 14/12/2012?
SI 17.4 removes the ability for a boat to protest for a breach of class rules. Could some please give me an idea of how the class rules will be administered at the event?

Protest?…………..Now where did I put those mast chocks!!!28th August 2013 at 10:00pm #6860DelboyParticipant
As we are talking NOR/SI the ones published on the front page of the Brixham mini site are old versions though you will find the correct ones if you click on the events programme on the mini site then click NOR/SI at the top of the page.
Unfortunately still does not show the class rule change last year.Amendment will need to be done.

Thanks Deryck, I’ll keep an eye out for the amended SI’s.
I’m still interested to know how the class rules are going to be administered, if anyone can help.

As a measurer I will carry out measurement checks as per current class rules, which as far as I am aware we are on the 2013 version which are available on the ISAF website at this link
If you boat complies with these, and you have a certificate, measured sails and a 10m long x 6mm diameter towline then you shouldn’t have any problems.
Hope this helps

How about 8.4 (xii) & section 16?

I wouldn’t worry about it mate. As Neil suggests as long as you have the relevant bits in order for the checks then all will be fine. We are a very relaxed bunch and no doubt a couple of boats will fail the checks, but the individuals will be given plenty of assistance to get it right.
If you want to discuss 8.4 at the event can I suggest you bring it along on paper with you?

This is Brilliant news that you and Neil will be doing a presentation on ‘8.4’. I’ve checked with the club for you, and yes a power point presentation isn’t a problem. Chris Perry has a Dry Ice machine from the 70’s that he is packing for you. All we need to know is what music you and Neil need to come out ‘on stage’ to.
Thinking Hi Ho Silver lining for Neil.
And maybe a bit of drum and bass for you Mike.
If you need any help from Terry ‘Techie’ Curtis any old Rock and Roll usually works.
Right, that’s alienated half the fleet! See you all down there.

8.4 (xii) The mast step and deck bearing may be adjustable but shall not be adjusted while racing.
Not sure what your query is Finn, this rule has existed for years and I don’t think it has changed for a long while if at all. It just means you cannot stop during the race and alter your mast rake.
Not sure what you mean by section 16, I presume you are referring to Rule 8.4 (xvi) A towing eye shall be fitted to the foredeck near the stemhead. This means you need a towing eye fixed on the deck at the front of the boat.

All the rules I refer to apply (section 16 being rules 16.1 through 16.6 headed Additional rules that apply during racing) to what can or can’t be done while racing, ie can’t be administered through the measurement process.
So, what I don’t understand is in the absence of protests by a boat, how are these rules going to be administered.4th September 2013 at 8:36pm #6869DaveBourneParticipant
you’re not going to sneak a crew on board are you finn??4th September 2013 at 8:37pm #6870
Not sure Finn, normally you would protest these rules on the water as you have already pointed out, but somebody seems to have written into the SI’s that you can’t do this. This is nothing to do with me as I had nothing to do with writing the SI’s, so unfortunately I can’t answer your question. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it, as most of the British OK Fleet (Woodsy been the exception) are pretty rule abiding, so a good talking too or shouting at usually sorts the problem.
See you tomorrow.4th September 2013 at 9:20pm #6871
Other than the practical issues I’m interested to hear why its in the SIs and what purpose it is intended to serve.
