OK'S Return to Harwich Town SC.
7th February 2017 at 9:18am #9476
Many years ago the OK had a large presence in many sailing clubs in East Anglia, Felixstowe Ferry and Harwich Town just to name two. Dave Rose and Myself have joined Harwich Town SC and plan for the first time in over 20 year to undertake some club racing. With Racing taking part in the safe water of the river and when conditions allow out beyond the breakwater in open sea. I sailed my Nat 12 there many years ago in a National Championships. The open water of Dovercourt Bay is fantastic sailing water and accessible at all times. Dave and I along with David the younger when on visits home from Kenya plan to have some decent days out training and playing in the waves. Looking forward to my first club race day 26th March 2 races a day. The club has 4 Finns regularly sailing and it is my hope to introduce the OK to some of the local laser sailors. All for now.

I remember sailing in the Nationals at Harwich Town in 1975, my second Nationals after Felixstowe in 1970. I believe the winner was a certain Dick Batt in 1774. The venue was great – just make sure you sail round the end of the breakwater on your way out to Dovercourt Bay. Oh and don’t drive into the car park with your boat on the back – the mast goes above the barrier and the boat below it with serious consequences for the week’s sailing. Is Didge Everitt still there?13th February 2017 at 7:36pm #9565
Andy, good advice on the barrier, it is still there. Yes Didge is still a member. He signed my membership form. He is so looking forward to seeing us back on the water. I might even get him out of his Finn. Be good get an Open back to the old stomping ground again. We did have one booked in this year but they had to pull out due to the fact we were sharing with the Finns and most of their boats are heading out to Barbados. Big shame. Nice to have the website back. Will this year be your 50th anniversary year ? Ken.15th February 2017 at 5:17pm #10309andrew turnerParticipant
No next year is my 50th in OKs. I bought K860 (Scrounger) a Rogers Composite from Jon Jenkins when he came back from the Worlds in Tonsburg, Norway15th February 2017 at 6:41pm #10313
wow, credit to you Andy. I will never forget my intro to the class at Ardleigh sc. 26years ago. So only half of what you have done. I have also had a few years off when you have never left. Looking forward to catching up. I assume we will see the Turner family at the 60th.
