You are correct that Solos are mostly foam sandwich FRP boats now. Was one of about 10 woodies out of 116 entries sailing one of my boats I built 13years ago. Will be optimising her for next season and saving up for a £1500 moulded norh sail (not)! Even worse than a £1500/£1700 OK mast. At least a mast lasts longer than a laminate sail. I really hope the OKs dont go down this route. Always room for ‘one off’ wood boats in classes that still allow them. Off to the Fireflies next week. Now there is a class with a tradition of renovating old wood hulls, which remain competitive.
I am currently renovating Burt’s 23 year old Rose buit OK. The hull is as good as the day it was built and with a new mast step that exploded in Thailand, a new deck, and a few other mods she should be as good as new in a month or two. The challenge for me is to rebuild her so that burt cant break her. Any bets?
