Following on from my post in the “W” thread, this is an unashamed advert for OK class racing at Upper Thames Sailing Club.
At UTSC we currently have 11 OKs registered plus 3 club boats that any member can use. We started our UTSC OK class racing season this morning (a week late due to the ‘beast from the east’) with 5 OKs racing two back-to backs starting at 11.00 and finishing in the clubhouse by 13.00 with an excellent lasagne (with other choices of food) and our award-winning local Rebellion beer. We had two separate race winners with the first 3 in the second race finishing within seconds of each other.
UTSC is located on one of the best sailing reaches on the River Thames, with a mile-long stretch between Bourne End and islands below Marlow Lock, incorporating the widest part of the non-tidal river. The season runs from March to December, with racing on Wednesday evenings and Sundays.
You can find out more about the club at http://www.utsc.org.uk or, if you’re interested in regular OK class racing and hopefully joining the club, please contact me, Phil Benton at [email protected], or why not come to our open day on Sunday 22 April which we run to try recruit new members (although not strictly relevant to OK sailors we include trips around our stretch of the river for the family including, possibly, trips in a Thames A Rater). Alternatively, speak to me at an open meeting (GBR2167) – I hope, but at the moment can’t guarantee, to be at Blithfield, the Nationals and a couple of other open meetings this year.
