Whit weekend 25-27 May 2019 – OK River Championships
24th April 2019 at 1:36pm #19016
The OK River Championships 2019 will take place at Upper Thames Sailing Club from Saturday 25 to Monday 27 May.
Dave described the 2018 event as a “snakes and ladders” event (yes, even I managed a win), whilst in the 2018 OK newsletter Karen described it as “a near unique event in the Worldwide OK calendar …. an event that mixes classic riparian socialising with tactically challenging sailing, plenty of gin and the odd cow to call water on.”
UTSC is located on one of the best sailing reaches on the River Thames, with a mile-long stretch between Bourne End and islands below Marlow Lock, incorporating the widest part of the non-tidal river. This 3-day event will be part of Bourne End Week, UTSC’s annual regatta that has been running since 1888.
Six races for OKs will be scheduled for the River Championships, with the planned times of the warning signal for each race as:
Saturday 26th 11.10 and 14.55
Sunday 27th 09.55 and 14.05
Monday 28th 09.55 and 14.05
OK sailors can stay on for an extra day and have two extra races on Tuesday 29 May, with these races (plus the 6 river championship races) forming an 8-race series for the BEW OK regatta trophy, The Yeatman Trophy. New for 2019, there is also a trophy (the Windfall Cup) for the 2-race series formed by the two OK races on the Tuesday (yet another reason to stay for the Tuesday races).
Social events are being planned for all evenings, including the (in)famous annual cocktail party on Sunday.
Camping will be available on the UTSC site on selected days before and during the event for participants. It has to be pre-booked and no electrical hook up will be provided.

Looking forward to coming for 3 days again this year. We had such fun last year despite, or maybe because of, the “snakes & ladders” racing!
Please let us know when the on-line booking system is up and running.

Probably worth copying your post to promote the event on the British OK dinghy sailors page on Facebook?
People seem to be using that much more than the Forum these days.
