You can’t claim the back of the fleet isn’t represented! I’m ranked. All you have to do is come to the Spring Cup for some of the best racing in the universe, and you’ll be ranked and I’ll tumble from 160th to 161st!

PS What with Rodders going off to Oz, if you’re genuine back of the fleet material there’s an opening for someone with style and panache , though it’s possible that Julian is going for that slot – so good they ranked him twice (245 and 278, that’s dedication to the back of the fleet!)I can’t believe we are ranked- I only went to the Nats. Perhaps if everyone came to the Nationals we would all get a better world ranking!
There definitely is a slot for Rodneys apprentice-truly a legend- but it will be a hard act to follow. Applicants should realise that to succeed they will need to have been a fast OK sailor in the past (30+ yrs), have been an area rep for as long, have unbelievable amounts of enthusiasm and a reputation for being late at the start because he/she has been helping the back markers on the beach. Also a major requirement is a seriously good sense of humour to field the jokes from the deranged bunch of loonies that seem to inhabit the OK fleet. Nothing changes! (No I don’t want the job!)

You’re right about Rodders being a class act. We’ll probably end up having to swap him for the Elgin marbles just to get him back. He was pretty quick, but in 1970 and ’71 I could stay with him, I think (tho’ time always lends a bit of a gloss to these things!)
Anyway, since when were you at the back, Bill? I missed it last year, but in 2004 I won* the Mark Williams trophy at the nationals, so I’m a genuine dyed-in-the-wool got-a-trophy-to-prove-it tail-ender: I can lose with the best of them! Dave(*hmmm…. Is ‘win’ the right word for a trophy you get for losing?)
