OKs @ Overy..
2 races were planned each day on the morning tide. An open with some differences at this difficult time, no socials, no prize givings – just great sailing!
Saturdays racing took us out to see in a moderate northerly with a big swell – OK Sailing does not get much better!
Race 1 took place with Alex & Burt at the front of the pack with Duncan just behind and Roger Tushingham back in the class after many years close behind. It turned out we were enjoying it so much we did an extra lap for fun! New to the class Paul Boom who has built his own boat unfortunately capsized and did a little damage in the big seas which put him out of action for the weekend but will be back! Race 2 was moved to Sunday as the waves were getting bigger and many of the Lasers we were sharing the weekend with seemed to have there masts pointing in the wrong direction!
Day 2 saw 3 races in the harbour still with a moderate breeze. Alex showed us all the way with Roger close behind. Burt and Pete Turner were having a tussle right to the end with Burt having to do turns letting Duncan through at the finish.
Race 3 got underway, Lots of place changing in this one, Rodney leading initially eventually with Burt falling out of his boat lent by Alex after a toe strap failure. In the end Alex to the win to seal the regatta, Duncan came in next followed by Roger.
Race 4 Was all to play for with the minor places. Alex kept his nose just in front all the way round with Roger and Duncan changing places many times around the course with a finish down the river to add to the excitement. In the end Roger finished less than a boat length behind Alex with Duncan just behind.
What a weekend! – Thanks to the team at Overy Staithe for putting on the event in difficult circumstances and for making it a success!
